Who We Are

Transcription Online is a New Zealand based digital transcription service that’s been helping business owners, barristers and solicitors, accountants, medical professionals, civil engineers, property valuers, researchers, journalists, government departments and many others with accurate audio typing since 2007. Our founder Alison Shannon has 25+ years’ law office experience and has worked for 15+ years as a professional digital transcriptionist. We pride ourselves in providing a professional service with a personal touch, converting your audio into clean text. Transcription Online is a digital transcription service that makes audio accessible for professionals that operate in a variety of industries.

Our clients include those in the creative field, media, legal, accounting, healthcare professionals, academic researchers and people that work in environmental science and technology, not for profits, and government departments.

The transcription service offered includes single voice recordings, interviews, meeting minutes and focus group meetings from audio files. As our clients are mostly from Aotearoa New Zealand, we have a reasonable understanding of te reo Māori.

Terms of Trade

How it works

Contact us by phone, email, or by filling in the contact form to discuss your project, the required turnaround time, formatting requirements and any other essentials. We will provide you with an estimate and a schedule of our Terms and Conditions, then take it from there. We’re happy to sign a confidentiality agreement/NDA if required.
When all the details are confirmed, we’re ready to get started on your project. You can either attach your digital audio files to an email or use a secure file upload server to send larger files. An invoice will be issued on completion of your project which will be due for payment within 7 days of invoice date unless we have agreed on other terms beforehand.

Rates and
Turnaround Times

We aim to be fully transparent with our pricing. Our standard hourly charge-out rate is $50 (plus GST) for a clear, one-speaker audio. As a guideline, a 20-minute audio file takes us approximately one hour to transcribe. We can transcribe up to 60 minutes of audio with a turnaround time of 24 hours.

For urgent work, our hourly rate is $65 (plus GST). We can transcribe up to 30 minutes of audio with a turnaround time of approximately 5 business hours. How to Record your Work

We can work with a range of audio recordings. The most common recording devices used are handheld digital voice recorders (DVRs) or smart phones. If you already use, or are looking to purchase, a digital voice recorder, Olympus and Phillips are popular brands that are compatible with most transcription software.

We use transcription software by Olympus and Express Scribe. Most file types are compatible with these two brands of software. Some examples of common file types are wma, mp3, wav, dss and m4a, but there are many others that are compatible. If you are unsure or have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
